Does your favourite Bible School or Seminary distinguish between sound and false doctrine?

Over two months ago I wrote or emailed the presidents of 14 North American Bible Colleges and Seminaries to see if their schools recognized an authoritative and objective standard by which to distinguish between sound and false doctrines.  Only 3 of those presidents have taken the time to reply to my questions but not one of those schools recognizes such an authoritative and objective standard by which to distinguish between sound and false doctrines!!!

Here is the letter which I wrote:

(Name), President,                                                                                                                                                                                                                           (School Name)                                                                                                                                                                                                                              (Address)

Dear (Name),

In view of your responsibilities as President at (School), I’m writing to you with a desire to endeavour to keep (guard) the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace.

 In view of facts …

(1) that the Lord Jesus earnestly prayed that all those who believe on Him be one even as He and the  Father are one (John 17:11-23),                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                (2) that God has established His unity and placed all believers in the Lord Jesus into one body (I Cor.12:13 & Ephesians 4:4-6),   (3) that the apostle Paul appeals to us that with all lowliness, meekness and longsuffering we endeavour  to keep the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace (Ephesians 4:1-3) and                                                                                                                                                                    (4) that the church which is the Body of Christ is tragically divided by false doctrines which Christians have embraced while sincerely believing that those doctrines are biblically sound …

I  have been writing a blog “False Teachings Sabotage Church Unity at There I have listed many false doctrines which I embraced and taught to others before I realized that God had provided an objective standard by which to distinguish sound doctrines from false ones. Since then I have had to repent of and reject many false teachings which I had formerly embraced.

I believe that many Christian colleges and seminaries have unknowingly embraced false doctrines (like I once did) because they have not recognized an objective standard which distinguishes such from sound doctrines.

So I am writing to you and other North American Bible College and Seminary presidents for the following reasons: (a) to ask you three questions and (b) to request your permission to publish your answers in a post on the above blog.

My questions are these:

(1) Has (your school) recognized any objective standard by which to distinguish sound doctrines from false  ones?

(2) Are students at (your school) being taught how to apply such a standard so they may clearly distinguish sound teachings from false ones?

(3) If so, what is the standard used at (your school) to distinguish between the two? (i.e. What marks do you believe are true of all sound teachings as opposed to the marks of all false teachings?)

Would you grant me your permission to publish, on the above mentioned blog, a copy of your complete response to this letter?  (I will not do so without your express permission.)

I do look forward to your response and thank you in advance for your consideration of these vital matters.                                              A brother in Christ,

Bruce Woodford

Before you make any judgments regarding the above mentioned schools and presidents, ask yourself this question:

“If I were a Bible School or Seminary President and received such a letter…. would I respond?  If so what answers would I give to the questions asked above?”

Before you consider attending such a Bible school or seminary or recommending such a school to a son or daughter or other young person, ask yourself this question:

“How much confidence should I place in such a school which does not recognize an objective and authoritative standard by which to distinguish between sound and false doctrines???”

The demise of so many Christian colleges and seminaries is because of their embrace of SPIRITUAL FORMATION. It has occultic roots and is bringing Catholic mysticism into the Church. I have contacted Dallas Theological Seminary re: my concern and their response was: “But we still believe in Jesus.” S.F. is connected to the dangerous Shalem Institute which has New Agers and Catholics teaching ‘the gospel’. It is connected to the dangerous Richard Foster, who is the biggest adherent for the Emerging Church, unbiblical mystical prayer and the Renovare’ Bible which he co-authored with the late Dallas Willard. This “bible’ has comments by Agnes Norfleet where she denies the authority of Genesis. We truly are in the last days. “And in the end times men will no longer sound doctrine and will embrace doctrines of demons.” I and II Timothy
